Moments after Barack Obama was re-elected as the President of the US, the celebrity corner of micro-blogging site Twitter was on fire with reactions and congratulatory messages from his friends in the entertainment industry.

Obama, 51, defeated his Republican rival Mitt Romney in a closely contested poll today.

Obama’s celebrity supporters flocked to Twitter to voice their delight after the result, with singer Cher saying, “I’m so happy! This is one of the great nights of my life. Tears are streaming down my face! Women we have a champion.”

“Breathe. Sigh. Relief,” singer Ricki Lake posted.

Former Despearte Housewivs star Eva Longoria said, “Me and my friends celebrating! I’m on tears! Moving the country forward! Obama.”

Pop star Katy Perry, who appeared at an Obama event, also expressed her happiness saying, “Done and Dusted!”

’Hulk’ actor Mark Ruffalo said, “I am so proud to be an American. I love our country and everyone in it. Even those who do not share my beliefs.”

Actor Zachary Quinto, who manned the phones for Obama in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, told his followers, “Never been more fired up in my adult life.”

Pop star Mariah Carey congratulated Obama saying, “Congratulations to our beloved President Barack Obama, our spectacular First Lady Michelle Obama & the adorable Malia & Sasha. We love you.”

Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am said: “All that travel, hard work and campaigning was worth it...and now its time to work even harder...”

Designer Nicole Richie tweeted, “We did it America,” and Olivia Munn declared, “Four More Years!!!! Barack Obama is our 43rd and 44th President.”

Canadian teen pop sensation Justin Bieber also joined the celebrations and said, “A lot of emotions right now. Congrats President Obama. I am Canadian. I am good. Free Healthcare.”

Actress Olivia Wilde got emotional and thanked everyone who voted.

“America, you have spoken! Women! You have been heard! Young people! You proved them wrong! Tireless Obama volunteers! I thank you,” she said.

Ricky Gervais, Paris Jackson, Amber Riley, Ashley Judd, Rob Lowe and Many Moore, Zoe Saldana also took to Twitter to heap praise on Obama and celebrate after learning the Democrat had won re-election.
