Japanese shares rose 2.7 per cent on Monday as investors picked up cheaper stocks after recent losses.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average gained 346.6 points, or 2.73 per cent, to end at 13,033.12 after falling 7.9 per cent this month.
The broader-based Topix index was up 28.27 points, or 2.68 per cent, at 1,084.72 after losing 6.98 per cent this month.
On currency markets at 3 pm (0600 GMT), the dollar traded at 94.82-83 yen, down from Friday’s 5 pm quote of 95.10-12 yen.
The euro was quoted at 126.37-40 yen, down from 126.70-74 yen late Friday, and at $1.3328-3331, up from $1.3323-3325.
