US President Donald Trump’s office has said that he will be unable to participate as chief guest at the country’s Republic Day celebrations in January as he had scheduling constraints.
“President Trump was honoured by Prime Minister Modi’s invitation for him to be chief guest of India’s Republic Day on January 26, 2019 but is unable to participate due to scheduling constraints,” according to a statement by a White House spokesperson made available to BusinessLine .
“The President very much looks forward to meeting Prime Minister Modi again at the earliest opportunity,” the spokesperson said.
In 2015, the then US President Barack Obama had attended India’s Republic Day celebrations as the chief guest. Last year, leaders from the 10 ASEAN countries were the chief guests.
