The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes loaded with a bunch of new technologies for enabling this flagship saloon to be rated an Autonomous Driving Level 2 vehicle. A combination of adaptive cruise control, autonomous braking, lane keep assist, GPS and camera enabled traffic assistance etc., combine to allow the driver to experience full-on hands-free driving. But the driver has to put his hands back on the wheel every 30 seconds at least to let the system know that he or she is alert and in control.

This video demonstrates the more complicated autonomous driving function where the new S-Class' on-board system detects and calculates the speed of the cross traffic. In this instance, it decides not to engage auto braking since the speed of the vehicle cutting across will enable it to cross the road safely before the S-Class reaches the spot.
