The Covid-19 pandemic revealed the need for enhanced production capacity, diversified supply chains, and equitable access to health products.

The World Local Production Forum was initiated by the World Health Organization to facilitate coordination, shape strategies, and foster partnerships to promote sustainable local production and seamless technology transfer. The third edition of this forum will take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (April 7-9), and will focus on advancing local production, technology transfer, and equitable healthcare access.

The first WLPF, held remotely in 2021, led to recommendations to strengthen local production capacities. The second forum, in the Netherlands (2023), focused on regional partnerships, policy challenges, and strategies to enhance production, highlighting the importance of collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and building sustainable production ecosystems.
