In this day and age, when everyone is making wireless headphones or earbuds, it is refreshing to see FiiO release a pair of high-quality wired earphones. This pair is packed with technology and makes for a fantastic listening experience. Everything — from the materials used to the attention to detail — the FiiO FH1 has it all.

The earphones may be made of plastic, yet they have a very premium feel to them and are very light on the ears. The exterior is nano-coated and is made fom UV treated skin-friendly material providing both durability and fatigue-free long listening.

The FH1 uses a hybrid design with conventional drivers being titanium and a balanced armature from Knowles using brass. The hybrid design provides the best of both worlds, taking care of the lows as well as the mids and highs. From listening to test files and frequencies to your favourite genre of music, they handle it all. A very balanced sound stage indeed.

This pair of earphones will most certainly satisfy the casual listener, but many audiophiles will also be quite happy with it.

The MMCX connectors allow for interchangeable cables, between conventional and single-ended cables. Used in conjunction with some of the FiiO digital audio players, this does deliver hi-res sound and is also certified for it.

Nice to see that the earphones and cables are clearly marked RED and BLUE to indicate channels and ears, no need to struggle to read the L or R on them.

The package includes not just multiple ear tips for difference sizes, but also foam and silicone, providing more bass and comfort. The earphone case is rather interesting and instantly reminds one of the “pelican” cases. It looks and feels sturdy and is actually waterproof as well.

From packaging to performance, one word to describe these headphones would be “balanced”. Add to that the design and they are being called ‘Un Bel Oeil’. French for ‘a beautiful eye’!

At the price they are being introduced, they most certainly are value for money.
