MapR Technologies Inc., a provider of converged data platform, announced the opening of its new R&D Center in Hyderabad today.

With 41 employees at present, the 11,000 sq ft facility, will cater to companies’ needs through its platform which helps integrate the power of Hadoop and Spark with global event streaming, real-time database capabilities and enterprise storage.

The San Jose, California, US-based company plans to double its employee strength in a year and add laboratories, professional services and accounts based on demands, said John Schroeder, CEO and Co-founder of the company at a news conference here.

MapR has a range of customers at present with applications. For example, in the Government sector it helps in managing over 900 million biometric profiles and supporting over 100 million daily authentications. In security, it facilitates uncovering data breaches in minutes instead of many days, credit card frauds and monitoring billions of events every day for cloud based security analytics for telecom companies.

The company recently announced the industry’s first and only converged data platform and introduced MapR Streams, a global event streaming system that connects data producers and data consumers across shared topics of information.

The MapR Converged Data Platform integrates file, database, stream processing, and analytics to accelerate data-driven applications and address emerging IoT (Internet of Things) needs, said Shankar Murukutla, Sales Director South Asia & India.
