With the premium and luxury biking segment steering on the growth path, Swiss bicycle maker Scott SA is pushing the pedal in the Indian market.

Besides setting up technology centres, the company is evaluating the possibility of putting an assembly line in India.

Scott Sports India said it will set up at least five technology centres for cyclist and cycling enthusiasts over the next 12 months.

“Superior technology products, services and the overall experience are what Scott Technology Centre India will offer. We plan to open five such over the next 12 months which could become the hub for cycling and outdoor sports,” Beat Zaugg, CEO & President, Scott Sport SA told BusinessLine .

He said the technology centres will also act as after-sales service centres. They will also be equipped with maintenance and service tools designed by Park Tools.

Asked if the company plans to set up its mono brand retail point, Zaugg said the company operates through multi-brand retailers as it is a preferred strategy for expansion. “We are not planning to set up a mono-brand outlet,” he said.

The company, which started operation in India six years ago, has 60 points of sales.

Scott Bikes are priced from ₹28,000 to ₹8 lakh. Zaugg said the company has created a low-end range exclusively for the Indian market.

On whether the company is looking at setting up a manufacturing facility, Zaugg said, “we are looking to produce not just for India but also for the international market. We may look at an assembly line in the next two years. Currently, the bikes are 80 per cent pre-built and assembled at the store”.

The company said it has so far invested about $2 million in its Indian expansion.

Zaugg said that the company is also looking to add biking gears and accessories in India.
