An analysis of exports up to August this calendar as per the data available with Tea Board shows an increase in all three parameters – quantity, unit price and the value – over the same period of 2015.
From January to August, India exported 135.57 million kg (mkg) against 134.4 mkg in January-August 2015, posting a marginal increase of 0.87 per cent.
On an average, each kg of the exported tea fetched ₹195.72 against ₹187.82 in the same months of 2015, marking a gain of 4.21 per cent.
Consequently, the overall realisation increased to ₹2,653.32 crore from ₹2,524.25 crore in 2015. This posted a gain of 5.11 per cent.
The CIS continued to top India’s tea export table accounting for 40.24 mkg (38.58 mkg) worth ₹608.82 crore (₹627.55 crore) at ₹151.30 a kg (₹162.66/kg).
Nearly 30 countries, including some producer-exporters, had bought tea from India.
Shipments to Pakistan this year had not been attractive. Till August, Pakistan bought 7.46 mkg (11.68 mkg) worth ₹71.12 crore (₹106.69 crore) at ₹95.34 a kg (₹91.34).
