Spot turmeric prices decreased in Erode markets on Friday on the back of rising arrivals. “The farmers brought 8,500 bags including 1,050 bags of new turmeric. Traders procured all the 1,050 bags of new turmeric but were reluctant in buying old turmeric of medium quality. Expecting good price for their produce traders brought huge stock, but the prices dropped,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.
Following heavy arrival, hybrid finger turmeric price was down ₹550 a quintal and hybrid root variety by ₹400. Local turmeric also decreased by ₹200-450. Only 45 per cent of the stocks was sold.
At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,634-7,569 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,136-7,427.
Salem Hybrid: The finger turmeric went for ₹6,300-8,177; the root variety ₹6,100-7,474. New turmeric variety: The finger variety ruled at ₹6,469-8,077 and the root variety ₹6,165-7,415. Of the 2,450 bags that arrived, 870 were sold.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric traded at ₹7,139-8,169 and the root turmeric ₹6,909-7,795. Of the 1,782 bags on sale, 1,647 were traded.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric fetched ₹7,076-8,208 and the root variety ₹6,837-7,539. Of the 1,733 bags offered, 1,480 found takers.
