Gujarat registered 1,883 positive cases for H1N1 or swine flu so far since January 2017 till Tuesday. The death toll due to the disease has reached 208 so far during this period, the state government informed.

Gujarat Mnister of State for Health, Shankar Chaudhary on Wednesday informed that in the first six months of 2017, 256 cases were reported positive for H1N1, while in July 322 cases were reported. "in August so far, 1,305 cases were reported, out of which 994 patients are under treatment. So far since January, 208 lives are lost due to the disease," said Chaudhary adding that the State government has deployed over 5,000 doctors and more than 17,000 health professionals to conduct door-to-door surveillance across the State.

The Minister also informed that the State administration is well-equipped to deal with the emergency situation arising from the disease. "In Government and private hospitals 450 adult ventilators and 53 kids ventilators are available. Also the state has a stock of more than 15 lakh tamiflu capsules and over 3,000 syrup to meet the requirement arising from the spread of the disease," he said.

The urban areas of Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat were among the worst-affected areas.

The State government has also issued an advisory asking people to avoid crowded places, keep surroundings clean and hygienic and avoid hand-shakes to stop spread of the virus.
