NIFT TEA Knitwear Fashion Institute is among the 10 institutions in the country selected by NITI Aayog for setting up the Atal Incubation Centre under Atal Innovation Mission Scheme.

Promoted and run by Tirupur Exporters’ Association, this recognition would go a long way in helping the knitwear cluster realise its goal of ₹1 lakh crore turnover by 2020, said CMN Muruganandan, Chairman, NIFT TEA Institute.

The total eligible project cost has been estimated at ₹1175.63 lakh, of which the grant-in-aid from NITI Aayog will be ₹890.23 lakh. NIFT TEA has planned 10,000 sq ft building for establishing the incubation facilities.

The incubator will focus on developing product technologies of functional garments such as moisture management fabrics, bio-textiles, seamless apparels and blended apparels among others, focus on process re-engineering, process standardisation to achieve higher productivity, waste minimisation and achieve zero defect.

Garment manufacturers in the cluster are at present struggling to expand their product portfolio beyond the pre-dominant cotton-based garments owing to lack of high quality research and development.

Venturing into all-season apparels at affordable cost has become the need of the hour to sustain and survive in the quality driven global apparel market, he said.

The incubator centre AIC-NIFTTEA will be inaugurated next month.
