The rain has not kept the travellers away as the number of trips planned this monsoon season has increased by 47 per cent against last year, a new survey has found.

According to Monsoon Holiday Predictions 2015 by HolidayIQ.com, while trips planned over a time period have noticed a dip ranging from a span of 3.4 days to 2.6 days, budgets on the other hand have increased by 31 per cent from ₹14,200 to ₹18,602.

The previous year saw group travellers planning holidays during monsoon accounting for 53 per cent of all holidays planned. However, the trend has changed with couples accounting for 45 per cent of all trips planned, followed by group travellers at 33 per cent, family at 19 per cent and 3 per cent of single travellers, the study said.

Hari Nair, CEO and Founder of HolidayIQ, said, “As destinations are usually less crowded during this season, hotels are waking up to this reality and providing tailor made experiential monsoon activities and offer massive off-season discounts to sweeten the deal for travellers.”

The survey was based on travel trends for the monsoon season compiled from 11 million Indian travel enthusiasts planning their holidays on HolidayIQ.com using their smartphones each month.

HolidayIQ is an online travel community with over 3 million members from over 80 Indian cities. It is a VC-backed company, invested in by Tiger Global, Accel Partners and MakeMyTrip, operationally headquartered in Bengaluru.
