Recently, a judge at a French court prohibited a couple from naming their baby daughter Nutella.
The sweetness of both baby and hazelnut-cocoa spread were probably what the proud parents had in mind but the judge was having none of it. The baby would be mocked, he said. (She was named Ella later.)
Though this act spurred a debate on who dictates and arbiters taste, it’s worth remembering that it’s not the first time people have named their children after brands.
Chevrolet, L’Oreal, Armani and even ESPN figure in the list. Can you think of any prominent people whose children have been so named, or at least whose names coincide with brands? Actor Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter is called Apple, for starters.
