Steady rather than flashy, calming rather than electrifying, wall rather than the brick. Is this the EQ Rahul Dravid can offer Corporate India?

According to Mr Suresh C. Senapaty, Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Wipro, Dravid embodies qualities which he looks for in the best of his team: “raw talent honed with high dedication, discipline with dignity, consistency and intensity to win and most importantly enjoy what they are doing.”

He felt that while his former team mates, Tendulkar and M.S. Dhoni have the same qualities, Dravid is a “nose ahead for his consistent and understated performance.”

Mr Sanjay Jog, Chief People Officer of the Future, said Rahul Dravid stands for integrity both professional and personal and “that is one of the most important qualities we look for in our employee. When he is at the crease, you always have this sense of calm and belief that comes from someone, who you know will always put team requirement before the self.”

Pricewaterhouse Coopers Director, Mr Birjendu Gupta, said Dravid is a great speaker and if he can combine this with a deeper understanding of human psychology, it can be a winning combination for becoming a management coach.

“The skill and guts that sports persons bring to the table are quick decision making in times of crisis (they have to decide whether to hook or duck when a bouncer is coming their way).”

Mr Ajay Sharma, Country Manager-India, ViewSonic Technologies, felt that the way Dravid built his career has management lessons.

“Consistency in all formats of the game can be equated with consistent results that an organisation should be striving for every quarter.”
