A major fire broke out today at the South Asian Petrochemicals' plant in Haldia near here, officials said. The Chairman of South Asian Petro, Mr C.K. Dhanuka, told PTI that the raw material godown caught fire this afternoon.
He said production at the plant, which is one of the largest manufacturers of PET resins, has been immediately stopped. As many as 21 fire tenders have been sent to the plant site to fight the blaze, officials said.
Mr Dhanuka said the extent of the damage was around Rs 70 to Rs 75 crore. “Everything is, however, insured,” he said.
