The Nuclear Power Corporation of India will design the entire switchyard for the third and fourth 1000 Mw VVER (Pressurised Water reactor) Nuclear reactors at Koodankulam, according to officials.
NPCIL would buy the Super High quality Electric cables required for the proposed third and fourth reactors from Indian companies, thus saving a few hundred crore of rupees, officials said.
The Corporation had imported 1,2000 Km of cable for the first two reactors from Ukraine, and then for connecting them also they had to spend money. The construction of the two reactors had cost Rs 13,171 crore, they said yesterday.
Now Indian engineers had learnt the technique of electrification of the reactors, and the cable of same quality, as in Ukraine, was also available in India, they said.
The switchyard would be installed with Indian accessories for the third and fourth reactors. The ‘Bhoomi puja’ for the two reactors would take place by the end of this year, they added.
