Tata Steel plans to make Odisha’s Kalinganagar another Jamshedpur and hopes to start work on its six MTPA project there next month.
“We will make Kalinganagar (township) another Jamshedpur or even better than Jamshedpur. Kalinganagar project is a top priority. This is our dream project. The construction will start in January,” Tata Steel Managing Director Mr H M Nerurkar told PTI here.
He said the company has acquired land for the new project and the work on constructing boundary wall is about to complete.
“We have procured equipment worth Rs 600-crore for it and plan to procure more equipment soon,” Mr Nerurkar said adding, “the construction will start in January next year for three million tonne project, which will be gradually expanded to six MTPA.” Mr Nerurkar said the first phase of production for three MTPA will start by early 2014.
The country’s largest private sector steel-maker had signed an MoU with the Odisha government way back in November 2004 for setting up a six MTPA integrated steel plant at the Kalinganagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur district of the state.
