The country’s largest passenger vehicles maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) on Wednesday showcased concept cars which are ‘realistic’, and will be launched in a few years.

Take concept small car ConceptFutureS, which MSIL says redefines compact vehicle design in India.

Designed in-house by the company’s seven-member design team headed by CV Raman, ConceptFutureS epitomises the next level of design evolution in terms of proportions, body sculpting, bold patterns and superior accent colours, MSIL said.

The ConceptFutureS will be one of the company’s few cars — others being Alto, WagonR and Vitara Brezza — where the Indian team has been involved the most. The rest of the pack is mostly designed by the global team at Suzuki Motor, Japan.

Unveiling the product, MD and CEO, MSIL, said: “Compact is the natural choice of India’s car customers. Compact needs a fresh design language, one that is bold, confident and dynamic. Our designers have created this brand new design, aggressive on the outside, and with bold and inviting interiors.”

Compact dimensions

Smartly integrating SUV features in compact dimensions without disturbing the proportions, ConceptFutureS will mark a step-up in design language, he added.

The urban SUV image is strengthened by the bold and upright front. An A-pillar treatment connects to the accent on the side sill, the taut powerful shoulders and a raised rear volume, to give a dynamic appeal, the company said.

Strong structural elements in the interior will provide the strength required by an SUV whereas a layered wraparound design with dynamic lines make it exciting for the young urban customer, it added. The human-machine-interface in the centre is also a unique spherical design with layers of interface making it fun and playful to interact with the car, the company further said.

The ergonomical seats placement and styling assure comfort and safety to the riders, MSIL said.

Hybrid design

The company also unveiled ‘e-Survivor Concept’, an electric vehicle design concept and working model of Suzuki Hybrid System (HEV). The e-Survivor is a design concept for compact SUV that pays tribute to Suzuki’s four-wheel drive (4WD) heritage, the company said.

It is aimed to take the excitement of driving to the next level and the fun of off-roading ahead of its time, yet relevant to the present, it said. In addition, the vehicle depicts the new exciting F.A C.E of Suzuki’s intent for future mobility, it added. It encompasses all future possibilities — Four-Wheel Drive, Autonomous, Connected and Electric.

“e-Survivor is Maruti’s answer to green technology. India need not import components for EVs. The e-Survivor is the realistic vehicle of the future,” Ayukawa said.
