Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) on Tuesday said it has received a contract for an electro-mechanical equipment package for a 1,020-MW hydroelectric project in Bhutan. The contract is valued at Rs 950 crore.
“The order has been placed on BHEL by Punatsangchhu Hydroelectric Project Authority (PHPA), Bhutan. Currently, BHEL is executing the 1,200-MW Punatsangchhu-I project in Bhutan,” BHEL said in a statement.
The project is being set-up under a bilateral agreement between India and Bhutan.
The company has already executed three hydro projects, Chukha (336 MW), Kurichu (60 MW) and Tala (1,020 MW) in Bhutan. These projects account for nearly 95 per cent of the total power generating capacity in Bhutan, BHEL said.
For the Rs 950-crore contract, six Francis turbines and generators of 170 MW each and associated equipment will be manufactured and supplied by BHEL’s Bhopal facility, while the control system will be manufactured and supplied by the company’s electronic division in Bangalore.
