The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will launch a nationwide signature campaign against the delay in FDI in retail along with issues over Food Safety & Standards Act, Single Point GST and delivery based trading in Forward Exchanges.

CAIT has formed a 11-member national committee in this regard, it said in a release here today. It further said that the committee will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, after which it would be submitted to all the Chief Minsiters, MPs and MLAs of different States.

Stressing the demand that retail trade should find a priority in Union Territories also, CAIT said that more than 5 crore trading establishments are conducting their business activities in retail trade whereas more than 22 crore people are obtaining their livelihood from the retail trade in the country.

While challenging the merits of the Act and its rules, CAIT said that the provisions of taking licence by several entities including religious places or mobile food distribution vehicles are called for necessary clarifications.

The CAIT also drew the attention of the Government over the turnover limit of Rs 12 lakh for the Cottage and Small Industries which contravenes the definition of Cottage and Small Industries under the SSI Act.
