Full-stack quick service restaurant (QSR), Charcoal Eats, which has moved from being a single-category player to providing all-day food options, is looking to expand by adding more categories. Plans are afoot to venture into new geographies both in the domestic and international markets.

According to Anurag Mehrotra, Co-founder & CEO of Charcoal Eats, the company is currently present across 12 cities through 42 outlets. The plan is to touch 55-60 outlets and venture into 2-3 new markets including Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chandigarh. The company is also in talks with various partners to foray into international markets, primarily West Asia and the UK.

“Over the last 12 months, we have taken the conscious call of moving away from being a one category (biryani) outlet and turning into a horizontal food play. The reason was that when you are in a category you would get skewed towards a particular time of the day and a specific meal option. In a horizontal play, you can offer consumers an expanded menu at various price points,” Mehrotra told BusinessLine .

The company, which started only as a delivery outlet, currently offers dine-in facilities as well as takeaway options. Charcoal Eats says its revenues have quadrupled over the last seven-to-eight months. The company’s revenues are close to ₹21 crore on an annualised basis. It claims to have served close to 100,000 customers in January alone.

Expansion

The company has a mix of franchisee and company-owned stores. Out of 42 outlets at present, 15 are company-owned while the remaining are managed by franchisee partners. Moving forward, the company would tap both the formats for expanding its footprint.

The Mumbai-based start-up offers all-day food options across snack and meal times including biryanis, rolls, loaded fries, starters, puff pizzas, beverages and desserts. It is in the process of launching meals soon.
