Coal India has produced 34.5 million tonnes (mt) of coal in May against its target of 36.5 mt.

The company said in a filing to the BSE that its offtake stood at 38.2 mt against the target of 40.9 mt.

During April and May, the PSU produced 70.3 mt against the target of 71.6 mt and its offtake stood at 78 mt against 80.9 mt.

The company had achieved an output of 452 mt during last fiscal against the target of 464 mt. Its offtake during FY’13 stood at 465 mt.

The Coal Ministry had earlier said that CIL would miss the production target for the last fiscal and had attributed the shortfall to workers’ strike and other issues.

The Ministry has set CIL’s production target at 482 mt and offtake at 492 mt for the current fiscal.
