Coal India Ltd has been awarded for “innovative use of its fully automated tendering process” at a national workshop organised by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure, NIC, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

According to a release issued by the company, Coal India and its subsidiaries have a dedicated e-procurement portal (https://coalindiatenders.nic.in) which was developed in 2013 in association with National Informatics Centre (NIC). Coal India had used the GePNIC software for online bidding. It uses the conventional two-cover system for technical and price bids for procurement of goods, works and services.

In January 2016, CIL designed the e-procurement process for automatic evaluation of bids and online submission of EMD. The EMD of unsuccessful bidders is refunded automatically once their bid is rejected.

The award was received by Manoj Upadhyaya, Chief Manager (MM/Vig), CIL, and R.K. Patra, Chief Manager (MM) & Nodal officer e-procurement, CIL, from Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology.
