German commercial vehicle maker Daimler’s Indian subsidiary has entered Bangladesh market by launching FUSO Trucks manufactured at its plant here, making it the sixth overseas destination.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicle, the Indian arm of Stuttgart-based Daimler AG, along with Daimler Group company Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation, launched FUSO Trucks, in Bangladesh making it as the sixth strategic market since beginning of exports in May 2013.

Daimler India manufactures the FUSO range of trucks at its plant in Oragadam near Chennai. The company had invested Rs 4,400 crore for the facility spread across 400 acre of land land.

“Bangladesh is one of the key markets in Asia for FUSO Trucks as the products are designed and developed to meet the growing demand for reliable and robust trucks”, a company statement said on Tuesday.

The trucks will be sold through the exclusive dealer, Rangs Motors Ltd, an authorised distributor in Bangladesh.

Daimler India has been shipping FUSO Trucks to markets like Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, it said, adding, this year the company would focus on more markets to follow in Asia and Africa.

The FUSO truck range manufactured at DICV’s Oragadam plant comprise 5 models across medium-duty, medium heavy-duty, segments, the statement added. The Oragadam plant has a capacity to produce 36,000 units.
