Jaguar has recalled nearly 18,000 X-type models in the UK and several thousand abroad because of a potential cruise control problem.
In a letter sent to customers about the voluntary recall, the company warned that cruise control on the 2.2-litre diesel engine X-types from between 2006 and 2010 might not respond to normal inputs, and that it might not be possible to disengage the cruise control in a normal manner. Turning off the engine, however, would disable the cruise control, the letter advised.
The 17,678 cars in the UK – the main market for the X-type diesel engine model – are being recalled after the problem was spotted by an employee, though no accidents or injuries had resulted from the problem.
“It was one incident on an employee's own car that led us to doing it...we've had no external customer feedback on it,” said a spokesperson for the company, describing it as a “pre-emptive” action, requiring a software update rather than any hardware changes.
