Kirloskar Brothers Ltd (KBL), said it has commissioned 17,500 litre per second concrete volute pumps for condenser cooling water application for the first unit of the 4,000 MW (5 x 800 MW) Coastal Gujarat Power at Mundra.

Coastal Gujarat Power is a Tata company. The pumps are called concrete volute pumps as the casing and suction draft tube is cast in concrete. The rotating parts are metallic. KBL is commissioning 10 such pumps and each unit consists of 2 sets of 17,500 litre pumps driven by 5.2 MW motors.

All 10 pumps are to be installed at a single location, making it the world's largest condenser cooling water pumping system for a thermal power plant handling 1,75,000 litres per second, it said.
