Lanco Solar, a fully-owned subsidiary of the diversified Lanco Infratech Ltd, has announced that it has secured an EPC contract worth Rs. 884 to build a 75-MW solar power project from MahaGenco.

In a consortium with Juwi Renewable India Ltd, the letter of award has been secured from MahaGenco to develop a 75-MW crystalline technology based photovoltaic solar power project in Dhule district of Maharashtra.

The Chief Executive Officer of Lanco Solar, Mr V. Saibaba, told Business Line that the project would be commissioned by February 2012 and inputs for the project would be sourced from its overseas partners and from the company's manufacturing base set up in Chattisgarh.

300-MW CAPACITY

The Chairman of Lanco Group, Mr L. Madhusudhan Rao, said that the group is laying special thrust on solar power generation segment and aims to have 300-MW in generation within next two years and about 300-500 MW capacity of EPC of solar thermal and solar PV plants over next two years.

“Having set up a manufacturing base for panels with an outlay of about Rs 1,370 crore in the first phase, we are well placed to take up EPC deals and also meet our own requirements. We are also considering taking up manufacture of polysilicon and wafers,” Mr Saibaba said.

Lanco Solar is developing 100MW of solar power in Rajasthan slated to come up within 24 months, 37-MW in Gujarat, of this five MW has been commissioned and another five MW is now underway. The company is also scouting for opportunities to set up units in Southern States, Mr Saibaba said.
