The country's largest passenger carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL), on Tuesday said it sold 1,06,781 cars in the domestic market in August, up nine per cent compared with 98,304 units in the same month last year.
The sales came mostly from mini segment (Alto, Wagon R) with 37,665 units sold during the month against 34,686 units in August 2014, the company said.
However, its compact (Celerio, Swift) segment fell to 41,461 units in August compared with 46,759 units in the same month last year.
Exports also fell to 11,083 units during last month against 12,472 units in August 2014.
