Reliance Defence Ltd has formed a strategic partnership with US-based Coastal Mechanics Inc to tap into India’s ₹20,000 crore defence maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market opportunity, the company announced on Monday.

The partnership will provide comprehensive MRO and upgrade solutions for Indian military aircraft and defence systems, including over 100 Jaguar fighter aircraft, more than 100 MiG-29 fighter jets, Apache attack helicopters, L-70 air defence guns and other legacy systems.

To form JV

The two companies will establish a joint venture at MIHAN in Maharashtra to serve both domestic and export markets. The facility will offer complete MRO and upgrade services for various air and land defence platforms used by India’s armed forces.

Coastal Mechanics, founded in 1975, is a US Department of Defence-approved contractor that supplies critical components to the US Air Force and Army. The company has completed thousands of contractual engagements for manufacturing spare parts for various weapon systems, and holds DD2345 Critical Data Agreement clearances for over four decades.

The partnership supports the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives by indigenising defence production. Reliance Defence aims to become one of India’s top three defence exporters through this collaboration.

The deal targets India’s strategic shift from asset replacement to lifecycle extension and performance-based logistics for military equipment.
