Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has achieved Rs 9,123 crore during the nine months of the current financial year, registering growth of 3 per cent over the corresponding period during the last financial year.

Continuing the growth pattern in production as well as in marketing, the plant achieved the best techno-economic parameters during December 2013, according to a press release.

December witnessed growth of 12 per cent, 4 per cent, 2 per cent and 3 per cent in liquid steel, finished steel, saleable steel and power generation respectively over December 2012. The best ever December production was achieved in billets, bars and base mix also. Blast furnace-3 also attained the rated capacity by producing 7155 tonnes of hot metal and the turbo generator-5 achieved its rated capacity of 67.5 MW.

CMD P. Madhusudan, congratulating the employees, asked them to ramp up production during the next three months. He said the need of the hour was to gear up to face an uncertain domestic market, find ways to maximise sales and realisation and improve the bottom line.

In December, sales turnover of Rs 1,315 crore and a volume of 3,06,000 tonnes were achieved, a growth of 18 per cent and 19 per cent respectively over December’12.

The exports grew 142 per cent to Rs 519 crore. The RINL is continuing its initiatives to increase steel consumption in rural areas in tune with the Ministry of Steel policy. The company sold 1.23 lakh tonnes of steel in the segment in the first nine months of the current year, registering growth of 14 per cent over last year.
