Stanadyne, a manufacturer of diesel and gasoline fuel systems, is planning to invest ₹100 crore over the next 24-30 months to increase production capacity at its Chennai plant. The capacity increase is primarily to manufacture fuel pumps under 50 horsepower (HP) capacity, while some of the investments would be used to make pumps above 50 Hp.

The company’s plant in Chennai has a production capacity of about 85,000 fuel pumps, which the company expects to nearly triple to 2.35 lakh per year, said Sanjay Chadda, Managing Director (India & Near East), Stanadyne.

Stanadyne has invested a total of about ₹85 crore in the plant, since it was set up in 2010, he added.

In India, the company is a joint venture between the US-based Stanadyne and Chennai-based Amalgamations Group, which has companies such as Simpson & Co, Addison & Co, Amco Battery and India Pistons under its fold. On Wednesday, the company launched EcoForce, a diesel fuel system for sub-50 HP engines. The system is for tractors, gensets and other equipment used in construction and industrial sectors.

“This pump is about 8 per cent more fuel efficient when compared to the existing ones used in India, and this will translate into savings of about ₹14,000-₹15,000 per year for farmers. Further, this will also cut diesel particulate emissions by half,” Chadda said.

Stanadyne is also looking to export the product from India. “There are orders and interests from China, Turkey and Europe,” he added.

Since 2004, Stanadyne — which has companies such as Ashok Leyland, Kirloskar Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra as its customers — had produced more than 18 lakh pumps for sale within India and global markets.

The company is also planning to increase its focus on producing fuel pumps of more than 50 HP capacity following a rise in demand from Asia and Europe.

In line with its expansion plans, Stanadyne is also looking at increasing its headcount to about 1,000 from 450 in the next 24-30 months.
