Maxwell Industries, the makers of the popular VIP & Frenchie brands of inner wear, is hopping onto the e-commerce platform with its own portal in October.

The Rs 260 crore, leading player in the growing inner wear market has already forged association with leading players like Flipkart, Jabong and Amazon. The Portal will offer customers better and exclusive selections, said Kapil Pathare, Director of the Mumbai-based company.

Having grabbed a sizeable share in the men’s inner wear segment, Maxwell Industries wants to grow out into apparel major with a range of offerings this fiscal. It ventured into leisure wear for both sexes in a small way in 2014-15, but will expand rapidly in the near future, he told Business Line here today.

    The company will also aggressively push the range of products from the French major, Eminence with whom it has a tie-up. There is segment wise (women’s wear) growth in the Rs 18,000 crore inner wear markets in India. The demand for high-end inner wear and leisure wear among women is rapidly growing and its time to market Eminence offerings, he added.

  INNERS retail Studio

  Aiming to cross the Rs 300 crore turnover this fiscal Maxwell Industries wants to give a big push to its retail initiative branded as ‘Inners’. From 7 Inners Studio outlets, the target is to hit 100 stores in three years. It will all be through the franchise route, Pathare said.

  In the past six months 7 stores — four in Maharastra, two in Bengaluru and one in Mangaluru were opened. Each store will showcase the best of the company’s range, including the French company’s and also future new launches in 500-700 sq ft. Each of the franchisee will have to invest roughly Rs 15 lakhs per store, excluding the retail space. There will be a revenue sharing agreement.
