Welspun Energy Ltd (WEL), part of the $3-billion Welspun Group, has sewn up plans to set up solar photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of 100 MW in Andhra Pradesh.

The company, which has set up a 5-MW solar plant in the State in Pulivendula of YSR District, had also signed up for the development of wind energy projects in the State during the last month's CII Partnership Summit 2012.

Part of the diversified Welspun Group, it expects to add about 250 MW in the new and renewable energy sector during 2012-2013.

Mr Vineet Mittal, Managing Director and Co Founder, Welspun Energy Ltd, in a statement on Monday said “timely commissioning of our solar power projects in the different States has given us confidence for execution of projects. The company plans to set up 250 MW solar power projects in 2012-13.” A 5-MW Solar PV plant, at Pulivendula in the YSR District of the State, has already been commissioned by Welspun Energy. The company plans to set up 100 MW solar projects in the State.

It currently operates 30 MW of solar power plants in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan.

In the recent Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) bidding, it bagged 50 MW solar power projects.

WEL has entered into an agreement with New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) to set up 500 MW Wind Power Projects in the State.
