Quick commerce player Zepto has resumed its operations of its Dharavi store following a detailed re-inspection by the Maharashtra branch of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The suspension was lifted after reviewing the Food Safety Commission and FDA conducted a reinspection of the facility and found that necessary corrective actions had been implemented.
The FDA suspended the food business license of Kiranakart Technologies, the parent company of Zepto, following a surprise inspection of Dharavi store on May 31st. The inspection revealed visible fungal growth on food items, improper cold storage, expired and fresh goods stored together and items stored on the dirty and wet floor.
“Zepto’s Dharavi store has resumed its operations. Zepto is committed to adhering to all necessary food safety standards prescribed by the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and applicable regulations,” said the company in its statement.
Last week, the FDA conducted a similar inspection at a dark store of Blinkit in Pune. The authorities found that the facility didn’t have the necessary certificates in place.
The episode had added to a string of challenges for the quick commerce startup, which has also seen delivery worker strikes in Hyderabad and a scale-down of its Zepto Café offering in multiple cities.
