New Mangalore Port Trust has handled more cargo up to Thursday than it did in the entire 2012-13 financial year . According to a press statement by NMPT, the port achieved record traffic of 37.07 million tonnes till March 13 against 37.04 million tonnes during fiscal 2013.
Increased handling of crude oil and petroleum products by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, and coal by various industries, have contributed to the growth, it said.
Overall, the port is expected to handle 39 million tonnes during the current fiscal, the port operator said.
