An educational institute-driven rural BPO has gone live in Andhra Pradesh.
The Sunflower IT BPO project has become functional in Challapali village of Krishna district with the State Minister for IT and Communications, Mr Ponnala Lakshmaiah, inaugurating it.
The initiative of setting up this rural BPO was taken by Sunflower College of Engineering & Technology. It has initially started with 30 software professionals. The number will be ramped up to 100 Software and BPO (business process outsourcing) professionals in one year.
The Minister while appreciating the initiatives of Sunflower College of Engineering said that in AP there was no dearth of talent pool – the IT Industry should be ready to utilise the large Human Resources available in every nook and corner of the State.
The State Government will replicate this model in setting up similar rural BPOs in other towns and villages in the State. He also emphasised the role of engineering institutions which can play as a role model in creating incubation centres to harness the talent pool, according to an official release.
The AP Government's IT policy also lays emphasis on taking IT sector to smaller cities and towns. In fact, a couple of years ago the AP Government signed an MoU with Infosys to set up rural BPO centres in 22 districts of the State.
