Mr Purnendu Basu has voiced concern over the disparity in wages across different areas of North Bengal. The department will strive for uniformity in wages in the tea industry, he said.
Currently, workers under the Darjeeling Tea Association are paid Rs 90 as daily wage while those under the Silliguri Tea Association are paid less.
The department is also planning campaigns to create awareness on the rights of factory workers and laws guiding industrial relations.
