A fresh incoming western disturbance is forecast to affect western Himalayan region from Friday onwards even as an existing system is preparing to leave east Jammu and Kashmir and away from the country.

Fairly widespread rain snow broke out over Jammu and Kashmir and isolated over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) update said.

MORE RAIN LIKELY

Fairly widespread rainfall was reported from West Bengal, Sikkim, Orissa, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya; scattered over Jharkhand; and isolated over Bihar and Chhattisgarh.

The IMD outlook said that the prevailing western disturbance would continue to affect the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains until Friday morning.

This is around the time when the incoming system is expected to start affecting the western side of Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining Himalayas.

Like the predecessor, it also has already induced the formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab. It could coast along its way into northwest India.

Monday's weather-maker upper air trough has shifted alignment further to the east from overnight to run down from sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim all the way down to south Kerala.

In doing so, it cut a swathe through Orissa, topped up by an embedded upper air cyclonic circulation over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood.

Satellite cloud imagery on Tuesday afternoon showed the presence of convective (rain-bearing) clouds over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Orissa.

Low to medium clouds were seen over parts of Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh and central, east, northeast and south peninsular India.

A weather warning issued by the IMD said that isolated thunder squalls with wind speed exceeding 65 km/hr would occur over Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa, West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya until Thursday morning.

Isolated dust storms or thunderstorms would occur over Punjab, Haryana and north Rajasthan also during this period.

A short-term outlook said that fairly widespread rain or snow would occur over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and scattered over Uttarakhand until Friday morning.

Fairly widespread rain or thundershowers would occur over the Northeastern States until Thursday morning.

Scattered rain or thundershowers would occur over east and adjoining central India during this period.

Isolated rain or thundershowers would occur over Maharashtra, south peninsular India and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
