A volume of 12.01 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 19 of Coonoor Tea Trade Association which will conclude on Friday.
This is about 1.47 lakh kg less than last week’s offer and is among the lowest volumes of the past many months.
Of the 12.01 lakh kg offered, as much as 10.75 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.26 lakh kg, orthodox variety. The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 77,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 6.92 lakh kg belongs to CTC. Among the dusts, only 49,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 3.83 lakh kg belongs to CTC. In all, 7.69 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 4.32 lakh kg, Dust grades.
Homedale Red Dust grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC Dust tea auctions last week when Pooja Trading Co bought it for ₹220 a kg. Likewise, Homedale Broken Orange Pekoe grade, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the CTC Leaf auctions at ₹226. No other CTC tea got above ₹200 per kg.
Quotations with the brokers indicated ₹88-94 a kg for plain Leaf grades and ₹112-120 for the best grades. For plain Dust grades, they ranged ₹87-95 and for the best grades, ₹120-128.
