Blenders continue to be active on good liquoring teas at Kochi auction, despite low arrivals in almost all categories.

Since the arrivals are low, the market will continue to be good, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.

CTC dust witnessed good demand and the quantity on offer in sale no 4 was 8,74,500 kg, which was low compared to last week. High-priced teas witnessed some resistance at the beginning of the sale, while the prices declined by ₹3 to ₹5 and sometimes more.

However, the decline in prices was less following quality. Though there was subdued demand from exporters, an improved demand noticed from upcountry buyers.

Arrivals in orthodox grades were also less at 7,000 kg and the market barely remained steady and tended to ease. Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed a small quantity of orthodox dust sold.

In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good grades quoted ₹102-162, mediums fetched ₹90-137 and plain varieties stood at ₹86-105.

In leaf sale, orthodox grades witnessed good demand with good liquoring Nilgiri brokens, and whole leaf remaining steady to firm. The quantity on offer was 200,500 kg. CIS countries and other exporters were active and there was some straight line enquiry.

In CTC leaf, the quantity on offer was 50,500 kg and the export demand was subdued.

In dust varieties, Monica SFD quoted the best prices of ₹163 followed by Mayura SFD at ₹158. In leaf grades, Sutton FOP fetched the best prices of ₹501 followed by Chamraj OP at ₹301.
