Liquoring tea prices witnessed a spurt at the auction in Kochi, especially those under the selection of Kerala blenders, with improved demand for the plainer varieties.

In sale no 37, the quantity on offer for CTC dust grades was 11,22,000 kg. Some export enquiries also came in for the plainer varieties, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis, said.

In the orthodox grades, the market for primary grades was firm to dearer. The quantity on offer was 17,000 kg.

Exporters and upcountry buyers absorbed only a small quantity. In the Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹110-153, medium grades quoted ₹82-124 and plain stood at ₹55-70 a kg.

In the leaf category, the market for Nilgiri brokens and whole leaf in orthodox grades was firm to dearer following quality. The quantity on offer was 2,85,000 kg. Good export enquiries came in from CIS countries.

With good demand, the market for high-priced brokens in CTC leaf was dearer. The quantity on offer was 64,500 kg.

In the dust category, Murugan SRD quoted the best prices at ₹154 in dust varieties, while Chamraj FOP-S (green tea) was at the top in the leaf category, quoting at ₹360.
