Tea auctions witnessed a mixed trend, with prices of several varieties trading irregular and lower.
The market for high-priced teas in the CTC dust category witnessed some resistance in sale no 7 and prices were lower by ₹3 to ₹5 and more. However, the decline in prices was less for good medium and black plainer teas, auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said.
Leading blenders and upcountry buyers lent fair support to good liquoring teas, while there was subdued demand from loose tea traders. The quantity on offer in the CTC dust category was 9,60,500 kg.
Of the quantity of 9,000 kg on offer in the orthodox grades, the market for primary grades was dearer. Exporters were the mainstay for the small quantity of orthodox dust sold.
In the Kochi CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹107-156, medium grades quoted ₹96-133 and plain varieties stood at ₹91-113.
The leaf sale market was also irregular with select best high-grown brokens and Fannings barely steady in orthodox grades. The quantity on offer was 169,500 kg. Whole leaf was firm to dearer following quality.
With fair demand, the quantity on offer in the CTC grades was 84,500 kg. However, the market was not steady for good liquoring varieties. Other varieties were irregular and lower by ₹3 to ₹5 and sometimes more. It also witnessed heavy withdrawals.
In the dust varieties, Mayura SFD/Waterfall SFD quoted the best price of ₹158, followed by Mayura SRD at ₹156. In the leaf grades, Chamraj FOP-Sup Green Tea fetched the best price of ₹407, followed by Chamraj FOP at ₹351.
