The market for select best high-priced teas at Kochi auctions barely remained steady, even though there was some improvement in arrivals this week.
However, medium and plainer teas witnessed strong feature and the prices appreciated by ₹3-5 a kg and sometimes more following quality. Others were irregular and lower by ₹3-5. In sale no 5, the quantity on offer in CTC dust was 9,17,000 kg.
The auctioneers Forbes, Ewart & Figgis said that blenders continue to be active on good liquoring varieties whereas upcountry buyers lent fair support.
In orthodox grades, the quantity on offer was 7,000 kg and a small quantity was absorbed by exporters and upcountry buyers. In Cochin CTC dust quotation, good varieties fetched ₹102-160, medium grades quoted ₹91-135 and plains stood at ₹81-105.
In leaf category, the market for Nilgiri brokens was irregular and lower by ₹5 to ₹10. The quantity on offer in orthodox grades was 1,93,000 kg, with a fair demand noticed from CIS countries and other exporters.
CTC leaf witnessed a strong demand and the market was higher by ₹5-10 and more. With active participation from upcountry buyers and exporters, the quantity on offer was 64,500 kg.
