Pepper prices – both spot and futures – were on an upswing on good overseas demand amid tight supply. Domestic demand, however, continued to stay slack as many of them are waiting for the release of the tainted pepper. Karnataka was selling 500 GL bulk density pepper at ₹625 a kg delivered Kochi under 'H' Form, they said. Pulpally, Bathery (Wayanad) pepper was being traded at ₹635 while that from the High Ranges was fetching ₹645. Spot prices increased by ₹200 a quintal to ₹62,200 (ungarbled) and ₹65,200 (garbled). On the IPSTA, July, August and September contracts rose by ₹497 a quintal each to ₹66,502, ₹67,003 and ₹67,502. Export prices were at $10,700 a tonne c&f for Europe and $10,950 for the US.
