Spot pepper continues to stay hot on good demand from end users on Wednesday.
Non-availability of high bulk density pepper has landed the end users to buy exchange released pepper claimed to be at ₹700-710 a kg delivered at destination, market sources told Business Line.
Meanwhile, they said, liquidity crunch continued to persist in the primary markets as a result the buyers could not buy sufficient quantity. Sellers on the other hand were demanding higher prices.
High range pepper is offered at ₹700 a kg, while the buyers were at ₹690 a kg. Similarly, sellers asking price for Wayanad pepper was at ₹690 as against buyers' ₹680 a kg, they said.
On the terminal market, there were neither any arrivals nor any offtake.
Spot prices increased further by ₹66,800 (ungarbled) and ₹69,800 (garbled) a quintal.
December, January and February contracts on the IPSTA remained steady at ₹71,000, ₹63,000 and ₹58,000 a quintal.
Export prices were at $10,800 a tonne c&f for Europe and $11,050 for the US.
