Brokerages upset with tax on dividend above Rs 10 l

Brokerages are disappointed about levy of tax at the rate of 10 per cent on dividend above Rs 10 lakh and the hike in securities transaction tax from 0.017 per cent to 0.05 per cent on sale of an option in securities where option is not exercised, is not that alarming.

Nithin Kamath, Founder & CEO – Zerodha said traders should understand that this does not make any material difference for active traders as STT is calculated on the sell value of the premium.
