The Centre will amend the Payment of Wages Act shortly to ensure payments of salaries/wages in cashless mode, according to Union Minister for Labour, Bandaru Dattatreya.
The matter was already discussed in the Union Cabinet meeting held recently and the required amendment will be introduced in the parliament after due exercise on the matter, Dattatreya told newspersons at a press conference held here on Sunday.
The move assumes significance in the light of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes as announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8, 2016 and subsequent cash crunch.
The trade unions too were demanding that the salaries of workers should come directly to their bank accounts in electronic mode, the Minister added.
