The overall earnings of Palakkad division of Southern Railways recorded 45 per cent growth during April-November of 2012-13.

Piyush Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, said this at the 148th meeting of Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of Palakkadt Division at Palakkad on Monday.

Quoting Agarwal, who is the Chairman of the committee, a press release said here that the division recorded overall earnings of Rs 564 crore during April-November of 2012-13. This is an increase of 45 per cent over the corresponding period of previous fiscal, the release said.

He said that 34 Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sewak (JTBS) counters are functioning in the division. Almost 17 per cent of the division’s unreserved tickets are being issued by JTBS, he said.

In order to improve the cleanliness in trains and to control pests, the division has taken various measures like high pressure jet cleaning facility and fumigation of coaches. In addition to this, the cleaning activities in all ‘A’ and ‘B’ category stations in the division have been outsourced, he said.

The division has augmented train nos. 16518/16517 Kannur – Yesvantpur – Kannur Express with one sleeper coach and two general coaches from December 2.

Agarwal said that 23 experimental stoppages provided in the timetable 2012-13 up to January have been extended up to June.
