DHL Supply Chain will invest Rs 680 crore (€100 ) in India to build and develop eight multi-client sites (MCS) across as many cities and also to upgrade its transportation fleet.
With this investment, DHL Supply Chain will add 5 million sq ft of additional warehousing space in the country. The company already has about 4 million sq ft of warehousing space.
The new MCS facilities will be located in Mumbai, Gurgaon, Delhi (NCR), Bangalore, Nagpur, Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, the company said in a release.
“DHL is strongly committed to investing in markets of growing importance. Looking to 2015 and beyond, India, China and other emerging markets are expected to be the key drivers of growth,” Paul Graham, Chief Executive Officer – Asia Pacific, said.
Vikas Anand, COO, DHL Supply Chain (India), said, “The new MCS will be shared by different customers who have different reporting cycles and different needs at different times. We are hopeful that we will be able to optimise the space and workforce in the new MCS.”
The company said that it will recruit 5,000 more employees by 2015. It currently employs 5,000 people.
TRANSPORT FLEET
The company will also use a part of the investment to upgrade its current fleet with technologically advanced transportation vehicles.
The company has also opened 18 branches to provide full truck load services (FTL) across the country to its own warehousing customers as well as other customers.
